Mission statement

We accept any chinchilla regardless of age, color, challenges, characteristics and demeanor.

What makes this rescue different?

Our rescue is focussed primarily on chinchillas with behavioral and/or health issues. We've discovered over the past year that most of the chinchillas coming in are either incurable (as in, probable brain tumors, epilepsy), or have been abused so severely they will only attain a certain level of rehabilitation. We currently have 3 adoptable chins in our rescue. Everyone else will either live out their lives in our sanctuary, or they will be placed in very specific, qualified homes. We do appreciate your continuing support. Without your support, these special needs chins would not have the safety and security that a sanctuary environment provides.

Welcome to Finally Home Chinchillas!

We are a rescue and sanctuary located in the Central Kentucky area. We take any chinchilla regardless of color, challenges, characteristics and demeanor.

Important News!

(Egads! We updated this section on November 27, 2009)

It's been quite a year! In addition to the mini-outbreak of pneumonia, we've moved, found homes for chins, even weathered some trouble makers calling Animal Control on us. The police showed up to investigate and told us who called in the complaints. Then they checked everyone out and determined that we take such good care of the chins that we could have 100 and they wouldn't have a problem with it. Obviously, we'd never go anywhere near that number, we are at our limit right now. But it is nice to know that the authorities could see through all the b.s. and arrive at the truth.

In the one month Marne has been off bedrest, 4 chins and 2 birds have found their Forever Homes. We're very excited about such developments, and rejoice that such wonderful, deserving animals have found such amazing and loving homes.

We're nearing the end of the calendar year, and we'd like to take the opportunity to thank our donors. This year, kind donors have donated a total of $150 to the chins here. Others have donated toys, which helped free up money so that we could get the chins things like wood shelves and fleece. One anonymous donor helped off-set vet costs accrued earlier in the year, and another rescue held a surprise fund-raiser to make up the rest of the costs. We'd like to thank each of you for your generosity and kindness of spirit.

Finally, we'd like to thank each person who's made this rescue a reality. We never could have helped as many chins as we have if it weren't for your encouragement, support, and donations. Twenty-three chinchillas and 2 birds have been helped because we've been able to work together toward a common goal.

Here's hoping to a happy and healthy 2010!

If you have a chinchilla that needs to be rehomed, we will do our best to work with you to get your chin to a rescue that is able to take her/him. We are in regular contact with several reputable rescues throughout the midwest, and can usually arrange transportation for your chins. You can contact us at finallyhome@wunderchins.com. Now that Marne is off bed rest, she is able to answer your emails more regularly than before.

If you would like to be a foster home, and if you are in the central Kentucky region, please contact us for more information. You will need to fill out the adoption application and have a home visit, but there is no fee to apply.

Please Enjoy Your Stay.

To read about and/or sponsor a specific chinchilla, please click here. Please note that the life stories on this site are true to the best of our knowledge. The only ones there could be any question about are Sage's, Felix', and Ella's. Those particular stories are in question because the people that sent them to us are now claiming that the stories they told us via email were lies. We, of course, trust the other rescues that selected the chins that came to us, and trust what they've told us about those chins. We also trust the people who've surrendered the chins to be honest about the basic facts. Our vets are, of course, able to tell us about prior bodily injuries via physical checks and x-rays.

The total amount we receive in donations and sponsorships combined cover less than 1% of our expenses. We appreciate every amount donated. To support the rescue, donate here:
